Why we started
Most organisation advice is photographed in large, empty kitchens. Beautiful jars, matching baskets, acres of marble. It rarely survives a real Tuesday in a 2 m galley. Wackytacodepotsn began as a set of notes on what actually helped when cooking tacos for friends in a tiny flat: where the cumin should live, how to stop tortillas cracking, how to plate for six with one board.
How we test ideas
- Observe: cook a full taco night and record every extra step and reach.
- Move: change one zone at a time — spices, tortillas, station, pantry.
- Repeat: cook again and see whether the change shortened the route.
- Keep or drop: if it did not save time or space, it does not make the guide.
Where our facts come from
For food safety we follow published guidance from bodies such as the UK Food Standards Agency. For technique, we lean on long-standing references in Mexican home cooking and general kitchen science. We avoid brand recommendations so the advice works with whatever containers and shelves you already own.
What we will never suggest
Buying a whole new set of matching containers before you know your route. Storing spices above the burners. Organising for photos instead of for cooking. Practical first, pretty second.
